Gryps II was a second colony laser is built in UC 0087 this time by the Titans, referred to as the Gryps Laser. Unlike the Solar Ray Cannon, which burned out after firing, the Gryps Colony Laser can fire indefinitely, although its primary flaws were the time-consuming process of recharging between shots and the fact that it was ponderously slow and huge (but resilient) target. Power is supplied by an array of solar panels, whilst a thermonuclear pulse thruster provides a limited degree of mobility. It was first used by the Titans to destroy Colony 18 of Side 2, and later captured by the AEUG and used to eradicate the remnants of the Titans. The Colony Laser was destroyed following the conclusion of "Operation Maelstrom" and the end of the Gryps Conflict.

Gryps II Became a major battle ground in the Second Engagement of the Zeon Civil War between Neo Zeon and the Principality of Zeon for strategic control of the Colony Laser. Despite Zeon's upper hand against Neo Zeon by using the weapon against there own fleet, Neo Zeon's reinforcements quickly replenished forcing Zeon to Evacuate and destroy Gryps II with the use of an intense Nuclear Barrage. The Fall of Gryps II would lead to the Invasion of the Zeon Homeland 3 days later. After the Gryps Theater, Gryps II Not destroyed but unstable, was left in a debris field of both War ships and rubble from it's Hull.

After the Zeon Civil War, no other Engagement has ever been fought at Gryps II leaving the Colony Laser to be abandoned and drift in space among it's destruction.
